About Domaine Bonnardot Molland

Phylloxera ravaged vineyards throughout Europe at the end of the 19th century. The small insect that feeds on the roots of the vines, left no one with a head and where there were large extensions of vineyards, in a short time it fulminated them relentlessly. In the face of this plague, to find surviving vines today is a miracle. These vines are aged over 100 years old and produce fewer grapes, but are of higher quality. Molland is a vineyard located east of Beaune (Burgundy) and owned by the Bonnardot family. This area was previously covered by 120 hectares of vineyards but, due to phylloxera, only a small part now remains. A small legacy, which the Bonnardots drive forward with the production of a magnificent wine.

Produced by the three children of Elisabeth, a descendant of a very long line of Burgundy winegrowers and an outstanding student of Jules Chauvet, Domaine Bonnardot Molland is a white wine made from pre-phylloxera vines of the Chardonnay and Aligoté varieties. These vines are over 100 years old and planted in sandy-clay soils with boulders at 190 metres above sea level. They are cultivated following organic and biodynamic practices. The grapes are harvested by hand and, once they reach the winery, they undergo a long and careful pressing in whole bunches. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in barrels, without sulphites or other additives, and then aged in these same barrels for 12 months. Finally, it is bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphites.

From a surviving vineyard with unique soils and climate conditions, Domaine Bonnardot Molland is a miracle. A deep, unctuous and mineral white wine that, thanks to its minimal intervention vinification, reflects all the power of the terroir.
