About Alzinger Riesling Dürnsteiner Federspiel
Alzinger Riesling Dürnsteiner Federspiel is a Riesling variety white wine made in Wachau by the Alzinger winery.
Since the family winery moved from selling grapes to making their own wines in 1983, Alzinger has earned its place among the producers of fresh, transparent and elegant white wines from the prestigious Wachau winemaking area. The father and son team (Leo Sr and Leo Jr. Alzinger) currently make a wide selection of wines using their knowledge of how to express the best qualities of the Riesling and Grüner Veltliner varieties.
Of the 11 hectares of vineyards that the winery has, Alzinger Riesling Dürnsteiner Federspiel comes from the shallow plots around the town of Dürnstein and some young plots located on terraces. Young vines planted in clay soils with gneiss, granite and shale and cultivated in an artisanal way. The steep terraces mean working with machines is not possible and the harvest is carried out manually.
In the winery, the grape is pressed and goes through a short maceration. The Alzinger Riesling Dürnsteiner Federspiel must is allowed to precipitate for 24 hours and then it is vinified with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature. Before it is bottled, the wine is clarified and filtered.
Alzinger Riesling Dürnsteiner Federspiel is a white wine that clearly shows the intrinsic virtues of one of the best varieties in the Wachau Valley.
