Lomba dos Ares is a red wine from the D.O. Ribeira Sacra produced by the Fedellos do Couto winery. This wine is a blend of 5 different grape varieties: Mencía, Mouratón, Merenzao, Garnacha, Tintorera and Caíño Tinto.
The climate in the region is perhaps more continental than Atlantic, with high levels of precipitation, long and intense summers, and mild autumns. The region also experiences strong winds. The used to make Lomba dos Ares come from vines that are over 60 years old situated in Val do Bibei, at altitudes between 700 and 750 metres above sea level.
After the harvest has been carried out manually, the grapes are transported to the winery, where they are left to ferment with natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The must then passes through soft macerations. Lomba de Ares is then aged in various aged and sized French oak barrels for approximately a year.
Fedellos do Corto, founded in 2013 by four vintners, is a relatively new project located in Pazo de Couto. The winery is currently home to 4 hectares of vineyards, which they use to produce their 3 wines.
