On the island of Lanzarote, located in the province of Las Palmas, lies Tinajo, arguably one of the most picturesque villages on the island. However, in this instance, Tinajo is of interest not for its charm (although it is charming) but for the quality of its volcanic, mineral-rich, and arid soils, which are among the freshest in the region. It is here that El Grifo 250 Aniversario Malvasía Volcánica Lías is born, a white wine crafted from pre-phylloxera vineyards over 60 years old.
 
It seems that phylloxera, the tiny insect that arrived from America in the 19th century and devastated European vineyards, could not reach the Canary Islands. As a result, the island boasts nearly century-old vineyards, like those where El Grifo 250 Aniversario Malvasía Volcánica Lías originates. Specifically, the variety cultivated is malvasía, a native grape of the area, selected from various plots, exhibiting a balanced acidity and a unique and distinctive profile. Indeed, discussing El Grifo 250 Aniversario Malvasía Volcánica Lías is no trivial matter, as this particular wine was created to commemorate the winery's 250th anniversary.
 
El Grifo 250 Aniversario Malvasía Volcánica Lías is harvested manually, in 18-kilogram boxes, and taken directly to the winery, where it is pressed with whole clusters (thereby avoiding tannin extraction).
