Ultreia Villegas 2023 is a wine that elegantly captures the essence of Valtuille de Abajo. It boasts an intoxicating bouquet of flowers and herbs, enriched by a delicate presence of red fruits such as strawberries and cherries. About Ultreia Villegas

Who would have thought that Raúl Pérez did not like wine when he was young. With the business on the ground floor of his house, this traditional trade involved (too much) sacrifice and hours of sweat and hard work. No one likes to be at home eating and having to get up to dispense a litre of wine, right? Medicine was his dream job. And thank goodness life finally led him down a different path! Before we start, please forgive us Raúl. We do not want to celebrate something that did not happen. But if you had studied medicine, the rest of the world would not have been able to enjoy Ultreia Villegas.

Sandy soils and vines over 100 years old are the key elements of this single-variety Mencía red wine. Specifically, this part of the plot had already been used previously in Ultreia Valtuille; however, on this occasion, Raúl Pérez decided he would rather reserve the sandier part for this bottling that awakens passion. It is not easy to break the 80-point barrier from Parker, and Raúl has already achieved it several times. Ultreia Villegas is a wine that has done just that. Grown and harvested entirely by hand, Ultreia Villegas is made from the Mencía variety fermented in 3,000-litre open vats. Subsequently, the wine macerates for at least 60 days in contact with the skins and is then ready for the 12 months of aging that await it in 500-litre barrels.

For Raúl Pérez as a teenager, wine and the vineyard represented a “sacrifice”, “a job that lasts from sunrise to sunset”, where dedicating oneself to wine was not all that glamorous and meant getting up at five in the morning. However, things changed when Raúl Pérez discovered its culture, the soils, the concept of terroir and the people behind it all. From that point on, a passion began. And this passion continues today with Ultreia Villegas. The blessed coincidences of life!

On the nose, it displays a range of aromas of cherries, blackberries and a subtle touch of tobacco and bitter cocoa, complemented by a flash of fresh blueberries. When tasted, it welcomes us with a refined structure and a balance that flatters the palate. The finish is long, leaving a memory of ripe red fruits that lingers pleasantly. This red is a smooth and accessible delight.
