About Don Px Convento Selección

Don Px Convento Selección is a sweet wine made by Toro Albalá with the Pedro Ximénez variety in the D.O. Montilla-Moriles.

Toro Albalá is one of the leading wineries in the D.O. Montilla-Moriles. Founded in 1844 by Antonio Sánchez Prieto in the town of Aguilar de la Frontera (Córdoba), they have held old wines with the intention of turning them into treasures with their own style. A legacy that is now carried by his nephew Antonio Sánchez with his two great areas of expertise; Amontillados and Don P.X.

Don Px Convento Selección comes from vineyards planted in the Moriles Alto area of Cordoba. The terroir is full of Albariza, a whitish soil that compacts to form rocks and allows the region’s rare but heavy rains to be stored in the subsoil all year round. The harvest happens late and once harvested, the grapes dehydrate in the sun.

This sun drying results in a must with an extraordinary concentration of sugars. Don PX Convento Selección then undergoes oxidative aging in American oak barrels over the years. 

Don Px Convento Selección is a sweet wine that is preserved for generations and that is impressive for how well preserved it is after so many years. A wine where the grapes were planted in 1943 and after so many years in the barrel, it is a delight that is recognised by the world’s most prestigious critics.
1955 Don PX Convento Selección 1955 is a profound and dark sweet wine that reveals itself on the nose as intense and complex, exuding aromas reminiscent of fig bread, chocolate, and coffee, complemented by notes of cinnamon and spices, a pronounced citrus zest of orange peel and candied fruits, as well as toasted, balsamic, and smoky nuances. Its palate presence is astonishing. This exquisite wine, despite its age, maintains an extraordinary and flavorful acidity that elegantly balances its sweet nature. Truly a gem!
1946 Don Px Convento Selección is a complex sweet wine with aromas of ripe black fruits, nuts, liquorice, pastries and tobacco leaves. On the palate it is broad with elegant sweet, salty, acidic and bitter notes. It has a long, persistent finish.
1931 Don Px Convento Selección 1931 is a full and concentrated sweet wine. After 84 years in the barrel, one of the best vintages of this sweet wine is bottled. More than a sweet wine, it is almost like a dessert in itself. Explosion of aromas on the nose, dry grass, ash notes, liquorice, carob, incense and noble woods. In the mouth, it is very sweet, dense, almost chewable. A total delicacy.
