About Zárate Balado

Zárate Balado is an exquisite white wine crafted by the renowned Zárate winery in the prestigious D.O. Rías Baixas. The Zárate winery is a historic entity within the appellation, having been at the forefront of Albariño wine production since the 18th century.

Zárate Balado is a single-varietal wine made exclusively from the Albariño grape. The grapes are sourced from two small plots known as Pago El Balado. The term "Balo" refers to a wall in Galician, aptly describing the vineyard which is encircled by an imposing granite wall.


The terroir is characterized by its low organic matter, yielding well-ripened grapes with limited production. Harvesting is done by hand, with a meticulous selection of grapes occurring directly in the vineyard. Once transported to the winery, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Following a brief settling period, the juice undergoes spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Zárate Balado is then left to age on its lees for several months. It undergoes racking before resting on fine lees for an additional period.

This Albariño is a limited production treasure, with just over 2,500 bottles released into the market.

2022

Zárate Balado 2022 is unveiled as an Albariño characterised by its vibrant acidity that invigorates the palate. Olfactorily, it is understated, with delicate hints of fruits such as green apple and lemon, intricately interwoven with herbal nuances. On the palate, its lightness and pristine profile render it an unequivocal and readily enjoyable wine, notable for its purity and the distinctness of its fruity flavors. It is a white wine that mirrors clarity and precision with every sip.
2017 Zárate Balado 2017 is a unctuous white wine, full and fresh. An excellent vintage for one of the gems of Zárate, which once again shows all the character of the variety, with a spectacular acidity that makes it very long and with an unmeasurable ageing potential.

On the nose there are white fruits with citrus and some memories of tropical fruit.
