The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky is a wonderful spirit. It is honey and amber coloured, framed with nuts, citrus and ginger. On the palate, raisins, sultana and dried apricots appear with notes of caramel, vanilla and ginger. Spices, baked apple and toasted wood. Long and warm finish. Extremely delicious! Perfect to enjoy on its own (with a little ice) or with any mixer.

About The Macallan 18 Year Old Double Cask Scotch Whisky

From Scotland itself, directly to your collection, first passing through Jerez de la Frontera (in Cadiz, southern Spain). Few distilleries show as much commitment to wood as The Macallan; and few whiskies are as special as The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky, a pure malt whisky aged 18 years in sherry casks.

American oak is the key element in the production of The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky. In fact, according to the distillery itself, “80% of the characteristics of The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky, and 100% of its natural colour, come from these exceptional casks.” And this alone is worth the investment. Leading this area, and all the decisions involved, is Stuart Macpherson. It seems that the European oak used in this type of production (grown in Cantabria, Galicia and the Pyrenees) is much more porous and contains much more tannins than American oak, giving The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky a great astringency that is completely unique. The importance given to wood is such that The Macallan invests much more money in the journey of this material than any other brand of whisky. When it comes to The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky, it is worth all the effort!

It is worth remembering that along with the wood, the ingredients used to make The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky are also very important. Concerto and momentum (which are completely exclusive to the distillery) are the two malts used in production. Even so, this is not set in stone, since The Macallan works continuously in the search and improvement of new varieties of barley to enrich the product. After this blend has been fermented, The Macallan 18 Year Old Double Cask Scotch Whisky (the final product of the fermentation that is subsequently distilled), is monitored to ensure that the wash is strong enough to develop esters (the compounds that provide the aromas). These are created during distillation, which for The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky is carried out in small stills of about three metres, and thanks to these, they create a much more condensed and higher quality spirit. This is because in these smaller vessels all the alcohols, even the heavier ones, pass quickly into the condenser, collecting a much denser and more intense spirit.

Finally, The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask Scotch Whisky rests for 18 years in these European oak casks directly from the south of Spain, making the ordinary into something sublime.
