About Paul Cluver Estate Chardonnay

Paul Cluver Estate Chardonnay is a single-variety Chardonnay white wine produced by the Paul Cluver winery in the Western Cape South Coast denomination, South Africa.

To make the Paul Cluver Estate Chardonnay wine, the clusters ferment spontaneously in a selection of French oak barrels, 30% of which are new and the rest are in their second, third and fourth year of use. The resulting wine ages with its fine lees for nine-months, with periodic pump overs and no added sulphur.

25% of the wine undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation, which ensures its freshness and acidity. Before final assembly, the wines are tested to choose those from the best barrels that are stabilised and ready for bottling.

Paul Cluver Estate is a family winemaking company with over 120 years of experience and a pioneer in the Elgin Valley where they work their vines with the aim of producing excellent quality wines that also reflect the area they come from. The good work of the Paul Cluver Estate has helped put Elgin on the map as one of the best wine regions in South Africa. This winery is a leader in the cultivation and production of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines.

2017 Paul Cluver Estate Chardonnay 2017 is a white wine with a nose of melon and citrus fruits such as tangerine accompanied by hints of vanilla, brioche, almond flakes and toast. These characteristics are reaffirmed on the palate where there is a broad and creamy mid-palate and a fine and fresh acidity. A balanced, versatile wine that reflects the landscape.
