About Grimalt Caballero

Grimalt Caballero is a red wine crafted by 4 Kilos Vinícola, a winery located in Felanitx, Mallorca. 4 Kilos, a colloquial way of saying 4 million pesetas, was the initial investment made by Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero to establish the winery. A modest investment in the industry that demonstrates that fine wine is not made with substantial funds but with passion and a commitment to quality.

Grimalt Caballero is primarily produced from the callet variety, complemented by the fogoneu variety, both indigenous to Mallorca. The grapes are sourced from the Viña Petita and Viña Ermassos estates, from old vineyards aged between 40 and 50 years. The grapes are cultivated on Call Vermell soils, named for their high iron content which imparts a reddish hue to the earth, adding complexity to the wine. The viticulture is organic, employing a cover crop to enhance soil microbiology and vineyard biodiversity.

Its production involves fermentation in open 225-litre barrels without stems due to the characteristics of the vintage. Finally, Grimalt Caballero undergoes an ageing process of 14 months in 600-litre French Allier oak barrels.

2021 Grimalt Caballero 2021 presents a delicate and fresh character, ideal for those seeking wines with a vibrant and effortlessly enjoyable personality. On the nose, it reveals notes of fresh strawberries and red cherries, complemented by an aromatic hint of herbs such as thyme and rosemary, reminiscent of strolls along the Mediterranean coast. Grimalt Caballero 2019 is a vivacious red wine. Olfactorily, it is exceedingly aromatic, dominated by floral nuances and a spicy character. On the palate, it exhibits profound intensity and sophistication, with exceptionally refined tannins. It has a spicy and exacting profile. The finish is clean and focused. Harmoniously balanced.
2017 Grimalt Caballero 2017 is a juicy red wine with an expressive nose of ripe red and black fruits, mineral and wooden notes and a herbaceous background. On the palate it has a smooth entrance, a pleasant and light mid-palate with fruity notes and a very well integrated acidity. The finish is long, with mineral touches.
2012 Light and pleasing. Steps to an unctuous and enveloping taste with fruity flavours. Good acidity and mature tannins. Long finish with a mineral after taste.

Red ruby medium-high body with a flash of pink.

Expressive and aromatic. Mature black and red fruit aromas with mineral and toasted notes. Base is somewhat vegetable.
2011 Good attack. A tasty red wine with a good amount of body and very good structure. Ripe tannins and a very well defined acidity that gives this wine depth and length. Minerals and spices felt at retro-olfaction.

Ruby colour with a light ruby rim. Clean and very bright with pretty, even tears shown on the glass.

A powerful, intense and very expressive nose. Lots of juicy, fleshy, appetising black fruit accompanied by aromas fom its ageing, fine woods, spicy notes and touches of aromatic herbs. Gains in complexity with even more nuances emerging..intense menthol notes, aromas of undergrowth, and earthy, mineral notes.
2010 Good attack. This red wine is tasty with good body and very good structure. Ripe tannins and a well-defined acidity bringing depth and length. Mineral and spicy sensations felt at retro-olfaction.
