About Gérard Schueller Riesling Réserve

A supernova, the explosion of a star that releases immense energy and light, is not a common sight. In fact, this is a relatively rare and difficult to detect event because the universe’s stars are low mass and don’t give off as much light. Something similar happens with Gérard Schueller Riesling Réserve, a natural white wine that is full of energy and difficult to find, a wine that shines on its own in the wine universe.

Its creator, the daring winemaker Bruno Schueller , is an expert in extracting the purest expression of terroir, grape variety and fruit. His work means he is a bit of an outsider in the AOC Alsace, going his own way in his winery, which lies in the village of Husseren Les Chateaux. Working with a philosophy of minimal intervention and using organic and biodynamic principles, Gérard Schueller Riesling Réserve is a single-variety Riesling planted in sandy soils with calcareous clay. Although these terroirs were not classified as Grand Crus at the time, they are among the most sought after by the most famous wineries in the region.

Following a manual harvest, Gérard Schueller Riesling Réserve is vinified in the winery in the most natural way. The whole bunches firstly go through a direct pressing and then the wine ferments spontaneously with native yeasts. It is then aged in barrels for about 12 months and is finally bottled without refining, filtering or adding sulphites.

The result is impressive. Gérard Schueller Riesling Réserve radiates energy in a supernatural way. A real Alsatian supernova that you can now finally enjoy.

 

2018

Gérard Schueller Riesling Réserve 2018 is a white wine with aromas of flowers and white fruit, spicy notes and mineral hints. The palate is smooth, funky and dry. A wine with energetic acidity, a lingering mid-palate and the most seductive saline finish.
