About Cova Rosa

In 2001, Julio Medem directed "Lucía y el sexo", one of those films that seem crafted from light. The setting was Formentera, and the lighthouse at Cap de Barbaria became the emblem of that story of desire, secrets, and freedom. The contrast between the arid land, stones, and low shrubs against the infinite blue of the sea was captured in every frame, like a postcard that still invites us to dream of that corner of the Mediterranean.

Not far from that lighthouse, on the road leading to it, lies a small winery founded a year before the film's release. Established in the year 2000, almost like a secret among vineyards, sea, and sun. Since then, Bodega Cap de Barbaria has solidified its reputation as one of the island's discreet gems.

The wine Cova Rosa is one of its most evocative creations. Its name is derived from a hidden cave among the cliffs of Cala Saona, on the western side of Formentera. At twilight, the walls of this cave are tinged with a soft pink that seems to float between the sky and the sea. That magical moment—a blend of tranquility, beauty, and melancholy—is precisely what this wine seeks to capture.

The secret of Cova Rosa lies underground. In sandy and rocky plots—where limestone prevails—thrives the monastrell. The water scarcity, so typical of the island, forces the vines to strive, concentrating the essence of their surroundings in every cluster. In the winery, fermentation unfolds slowly, respecting the wine's natural rhythms. It is a living process, where the yeasts transform the must into something more complex, releasing aromas reminiscent of ripe fruits, damp earth, and Mediterranean herbs. The winemaker's patient work aims to preserve this authenticity, allowing the grape to express the landscape's identity on its own.

Thus emerges Cova Rosa, an intense, elegant, and saline rosé that, like a film shot, evokes the sunsets that paint the island pink, the westerly winds, and the distant murmur of the sea.

2023

Cova Rosa 2023 presents a vibrant and invigorating experience from the first sip. On the nose, it reveals floral aromas of wild white flowers, accompanied by an enticing hint of forest fruits such as strawberries and raspberries. Upon tasting, its lightness and balanced acidity are evident, imparting a splendid freshness to each sip. Subtle mineral and saline notes emerge at the finish, offering a delightful persistence on the palate. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a rosé option that stands out for its freshness and fruity character without being heavy.
