The Top 10 of the best Verdejos

26/06/2018 Production area

The origin of the Verdejo variety dates back more than a thousand years in the region of Castilla y León. Established in Rueda, today, thanks to the different processes, the work in the vineyard, the age and location of the vineyard and of course, the character it is given by the winemaker, we can choose from a wide range of different wines made with this fantastic variety.

In this post, we want to show you all the profiles of Verdejo wine we can find:

Naia: Eulogio Calleja’s mastery and knowledge of the Verdejo variety is reflected in this wine, made with the utmost respect for the varietal aromas, with stone fruits, herbaceous and citrus notes.

Menade Verdejo: It is one of the first organic Verdejo wines of the area, with three different harvests, green harvest in the day, another at night and another mechanical one, thus obtaining 3 grape profiles that will give this wine all the complexity it shows.

Javier Sanz Verdejo: Javier Sanz goes through a cold maceration and a slow fermentation that allows it to preserve all the aromas of the variety for this classic of the area.

Circe Verdejo: Its vinification at a low temperature defines this wine with honesty, giving it all the varietal character with a lot of frankness. It won the Best White of the World award in the 19th edition of the Brussels World Contest.

Las Caraballas Verdejo: In the heart of D.O. Rueda, this Verdejo is born, fermented in stainless steel to not detract from the fruitiest part and to show all the virtues of the variety with honesty.

Quinta Apolonia: The little brother of Belondrade y Lurtón has already grown up. The assembly of two different vinifications, one in stainless steel and the other on lees in barrels, results in an ample and creamy wine with fruit and freshness. A total delicacy.

Ossian: Pre-phylloxera vines cultivated organically, native yeasts and ageing in different types of French oak barrels, result in a creamy wine, with character and a surprising freshness that gives it life for years. In short, one of the greatest Spanish white wines.

Microbio Wines Correcaminos: The natural Verdejo is brought to us by Ismael, produced in a traditional way with minimum intervention and seeking the maximum expression of the Verdejo variety.

Barco del Corneta: We love Bea’s wines and each vintage of El Barco del Corneta leaves us speechless. A precise work in the vineyard, native yeasts and just the right ageing in 300-litre barrels, are the key to give the volume and the stillness that the Verdejo needs to express itself with all its greatness. Spectacular.

José Pariente Cuvee Especial: Revisiting a classic. With this Cuvee, José Pariente applies the new techniques of vinification, fermentation and ageing on lees in egg-shaped cement deposits, which give it volume and creaminess without masking the varietal character.
