Ysios Blanco Fermentado en Barrica is a Viura variety white wine produced by the Ysios winery in the DOCa. Rioja in Spain.
Ysios Blanco Fermentado en Barrica is made with a selection of Viura clusters from old vines that come from the “cabedas”, or the higher parts of the vineyard. These particular grapes come from plots in Laguardia, Elvillar, Páganos, El Nogal, Rojanda, La Pedrera and Huerta Vieja with predominantly poor and shallow soils.
The harvest is carried out manually and the grapes are collected in 10 kg boxes. When the grapes reach the winery, they are cold macerated with their skins for 12 hours. The free-run juice and the first pressing, carried out at low pressure, ferment together in 500- and 225-litre French oak barrels and then the wine rests on its lees for nine months. A small proportion of the grapes ferment with the skins for 15 days and then age with the lees in clay amphoras for nine months.
Ysios Blanco Fermentado en Barrica is a complex and elegant wine that showcases the most floral and delicate side of Rioja Alavesa’s old vineyards.

Ysios Blanco Fermentado en Barrica 2017 is a creamy white wine with floral and delicate aromas on the nose that are typical of the Viura variety from old vines, accompanied by nuances of chamomile and acacias, white fruits and citrus. On the palate it is silky, with tension and nerve, reaffirming the aromas and accompanied by a subtle mineral nuance. An elegant and complex white wine with a long and flavoursome finish.
