Characteristics Puiggròs Signes
Puiggròs Signes is a red wine from D.O. Catalunya made by Bodegas Puiggròs in Serra de Rubió (Barcelona).
Bodegas Puiggròs is a winery that was founded in 2008 in the area of Ódena, in the region of Anoia, quite close to the city of Barcelona. Their objective is to recover the native varieties of the area, like the Sumoll or the Black Grenache, which were planted around 1900 and are currently hardly vinified.
The vineyards of Bodegas Puiggròs are located at an altitude of between 450 and 650 metres. They are planted on soils which are mainly clayey and calcareous with chalk in the sub-layers. The climate of the area is clearly Mediterranean with a continental influence.
Puiggròs Signes is a wine made from Sumoll and Red Grenache from vineyards that are over 70 years old, located at around 650 metres, planted on clayey-calcareous soils.
They are manually harvested and placed in 10-kg boxes. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, each variety ferments in stainless steel deposits and macerates for 21 days with light punch-downs. The malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels where they also age for 10 months. It is bottled without filtering.
Puiggròs Signes is a mature, intense and structured wine. On the nose, the aromas of ripe black and red fruit stand out on a very elegant roasted background. In the mouth, it is deep with a surprising freshness that makes it very long.
