Characteristics Godelia Tinto
Godelia Tinto is a red wine from Bierzo made by Bodegas Godelia. It is a single variety of Mencia.
The grapes comes from a vineyard owned by the winery. Vines are between 40 and 60 years old and between 500 and 700 metres of altitude. They grow in clay soils, with pebbles and slate. The grapes undergo a selection process in the same vineyard and the harvest is done manually in boxes of 15 kilos. This is completed during a temperature of 10 °.
The winemaking is done plot by plot. After stripping, the wine rests in stainless steel tanks of 150 litres at a temperature of 25 °. Maceration takes place with the skins for 18 to 22 days. The aging of this wine occurs in French oak 350, 400 and 500 litre barrels for twelve months. Of these, 60% have been used, 30% are new and the remaining 10% were used before for white wines. Bodegas Godelia is located in the village of Pieros. This quaint village integrates seamlessly into the landscape and witnesses pilgrimages of the faithful, year after year, on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
