Frank Cornelissen Magma is a natural red wine made by Frank Cornelissen in the IGT Terre Siciliane, in Sicily (Italy) with the native Nerello Mascalese variety.
After spending a long time dedicated to selling high-end wines, in 2001, Belgian Frank Cornelissen decided to make his own wines. To do this, he chose the volcanic landscape around Etna (Sicily) and interprets it with the most natural viticulture and winemaking methods, avoiding any external agents that could mask the purest expression of the wine.
Frank Cornelissen Magma comes from non-grafted vines aged over 100 years old. These vines are planted in volcanic soils at an altitude of more than 900 metres above sea level. They are cultivated using organic agriculture with biodynamic treatments and the harvest is carried out manually.
Frank Cornelissen Magma is only made in years where phenolic ripeness is considered perfect. Firstly, the grapes are destemmed and undergo a light pressing. They then macerate on the skins for about 60 days and ferment with native yeasts in fibreglass. Finally the wine ages in 1200-litre to 2500-litre neutral epoxy tanks for 18 months. Once the wine is ready, it is bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites.
With very low production and unique presentation in a hand-painted bottle, Cornelissen presents his best wine. Frank Cornelissen Magma is a fine and elegant red to enjoy the Etna landscape in its most natural state.
