April is here, bringing with it wines full of energy and vitality

06/04/2022 New on catalog

Although people often say that “winter isn’t over until April is over”, this is the time when the explosion of spring is clear to see. April is also a month of contrasts, there are rainy days, but everything is in bloom. A season full of optimism and good energy that is also reflected in the selection of new additions to the Decántalo catalogue and wines with new vintages that we want to tell you about today, because in April, there are a thousand wines!

1. Waterkloof Circumstance Chenin Blanc

Floral aromas, white pears and honey. Spring is definitely here! Waterkloof Circumstance Chenin Blanc is one of the newest additions to our catalogue and it couldn't have arrived at a better time! An honest white wine, made at the Waterkloof winery (in South Africa) following the principles of organic agriculture, with manual harvesting, minimal intervention and maximum care, this wine is a delicious and refreshing expression of the Chenin Blanc variety, which is perfect for enjoying the sunniest and most spring-like days.

2. Ultreia Mencía

We don’t really need words to talk about Ultreia Mencia. It is made by the magic hands of Raúl Pérez, one of the most admired and respected winemakers in the world, who also knows the Mencía variety like the back of his hand and offers us his most personal interpretation through a red wine with an Atlantic heart and full of freshness. Ultreia Mencía is also one of the few wines that is worth far more than it costs. A reasonable price and an extraordinary quality in a wine that is a delight to those who enjoy red wines at any time of the year.

3. Fedellos Do Couto Bastarda

And, speaking of freshness, the Ribeira Sacra (Galicia) is a Spanish wine region that producing increasingly well known red wines. Galicia wants us to know that it is also home to some great red wines, like Fedellos do Couto Bastarda, an excellent opportunity to experience the qualities of the Bastarda variety, which grows in vineyards planted on slate, and offers us a red wine with Atlantic freshness and a mineral heart. It’s elegant and subtle, with the perfect balance between lightness and depth.

4. Muga Rosado

One of the unmistakable signs that spring is finally here is the wonderful moment when the fruit trees bloom. This colourful landscape, ranging from the most intense to the palest pink, reminds us that the perfect moment for rosé wines has arrived. Although these are very versatile wines and perfect to be enjoyed all year round, they’re at their best in spring. One example is the Muga Rosé, made from bunches of Garnacha Tinta and Viura, with aromas of flowers and fruits working together to create a refreshing rosé wine with the elegance of Rioja. The pure essence of spring!

5. Dumenge

Only 1,600 bottles of this new wine have been produced: Dumenge is an ancient natural Xarel·lo Vermell sparkling wine made by three friends who set up a wine project that they worked on every Sunday (diumenge or dumenge, a colloquialism from spoken Catalan), in order to fit it in around their other jobs. The result? An agile, vibrant sparkling wine with a springtime aroma and well-integrated bubbles that can be used to celebrate every day as if it were Sunday or to toast to the wonderful art of “dolce far niente” every Sunday.

Don't forget to take a look through Decántalo, where you will find more new entries and an endless number of wines that are perfect for enjoying the most joyful and floral season of the year.
