Algueira Finca Cortezada is a white wine aged on lees and produced by the Algueira winery in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra (Galicia) with the native Albariño, Godello and Treixadura varieties.

Being one of the few wineries in the world to cultivate their vines on an 85º slope, Adega Algueira is known for growing almost extinct native grapes in an exceptional microclimate. The vines lie on the slopes of the Sil River, so Fernando González and his wife Ana perform a heroic viticulture to create exemplary, world-renowned wines.

Algueira Finca Cortezada comes from old vines planted on terraces on a spectacular slope facing southwest. They have gneiss, quartz and slate soils and are worked from the river by boat or from the rugged mountains themselves. All the work is manual, and they seek to extract the maximum expression of the terroir. The harvest takes place at the optimum point of ripeness.

Once the grapes are collected, the Algueira Finca Cortezada winemaking process begins in a small Romanesque building rebuilt with the latest technology. Firstly, it ferments spontaneously at 13°C in stainless steel tanks. It is then aged on lees for 6 months in stainless steel tanks. Before it is bottled, it is clarified and stabilised.

Algueira Finca Cortezada comes from a spectacular setting, where the native varieties present the perfect balance between salinity, acidity and bitterness.

Ribeira Sacra is one of those magical places that you just have to visit to truly experience it. The vertiginous terraces rise steep on the banks of the river Sil, making the terrain difficult to work on that it requires complete manual work and labor on the vineyards. The agriculture carried out here is aptly referred to as ‘heroic agriculture’, due to the hard work carried out cultivating the land. Both red and white wines are produced in the Ribeira Sacra. The red wines are mostly made with the Mencía variety, defined by their expressive and elegant character with a good acidity. The Ribeira Sacra white wines are principally made with the Godello and Albariño varieties. They are wines with a good volume in the mouth, aromatic and fruity. The Ribeira Sacra wines are often come in very limited productions, are of high quality and with notable personalities.
