Abadal Crianza is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties by Abadal in the D.O. Pla de Bages.

The Abadal winery was founded in 1983 by Valentí Roqueta in the Catalan town of Santa Maria d'Horta d'Avinyó (Manresa). 107 hectares of vineyards that surround an impressive family farmhouse dating back more than 9 centuries. A commitment to a small territory with its own personality where tradition is combined with modern winemaking methods to create unique wines.

But if there is one thing the Abadal Crianza vineyards stand out for, it’s the presence of forests that grow alongside. A mosaic of vines with an average age of 25 years old, lying at an altitude of 400 to 600 metres above sea level and planted on loamy and loamy-sandy soil. Strains that are cultivated in a traditional way, with the harvest carried out manually and selecting the plots.

When the Abadal Crianza grape reaches the winery, it is destemmed and macerated for a week in automatic treading tanks. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Before being bottled, it ages in 225-litre oak barrels, some of which are new and others that are 3 years old.

Abadal Crianza is a red wine created through the coexistence of vineyards and forests. A microclimate of contrasts that gives the grapes and wines intensity and quality.

Pictures and situation Abadal
Home to great red, white and rosé wines, as well as sparkling, naturally sweet and rancio wines, perhaps it’s a little early to try and pinpoint what it means to be a wine from the DO. Pla del Bages. However, for now the region is known for their red wines, both single-varieties and blends, but especially their white wines produced with the Picapoll grape, a native variety to the region and used by almost all of the wineries.
