About Cascina Morassino Langhe Rosso

Maintaining a family business preserves and honours a legacy. A very good way to keep the family tradition and a place’s history alive. This is how Roberto, son of the great Mauro Bianco, has taken on Cascina Morassino, with the same passion and dedication as the four generations that came before him. This is a small winery in the Barbaresco production area, one of the most renowned denominations in Piedmont, where he is dedicated to making high quality wines with a particular focus on wines made from Nebbiolo grapes. Although this is one of Italy’s most emblematic grape varieties, it is not the only one Mauro works with. And that is obvious from Cascina Morassino Langhe Rosso, a red wine made with the original Merlot variety from a heritage of first class vineyards.

Although Barbaresco is not at all known for the Merlot variety, this grape thrives wonderfully thanks to being grown in a high-end vineyard known as Cru Ovello. The vines were planted in the 1990s in clay and limestone loam soil at an altitude of 270 metres above sea level. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand with strict selection and immediately taken to the winery. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and then the wine is aged in used barrels for 15 months and a few more months in the bottle.

Part of the DOC Langhe, Cascina Morassino Langhe Rosso is a successful Merlot from Italy. A rich, fine and well-structured red wine that maintains a family legacy that prioritises the originality of the vine and the terroir.
