About Batič Merlot

Based on the idea that we should give back to the earth more than what Mother Nature gives us to eat, biodynamics is presented as a sustainable agriculture with a holistic approach. A philosophy of work and even of life, in which plants, animals and human beings live together in harmony and that, working with completely organic materials and the vital energies of nature, a quality final product is created. It is under this premise that Batič, a legendary estate in the Vipava Valley (Slovenia) dating back to 1770, makes each of its wines. Their wines are certified with the Demeter biodynamic seal and, thanks to their high quality and minimal production, they are stealing the hearts of natural wine lovers.

This is the case with Batič Merlot. A natural red wine made from vineyards over 35 years old in the Vipava Valley. These Merlot vines have not been subjected to any chemical treatment and the only things they have been given are compost, homeopathic preparations and organic treatments that enliven the soil, improve fertility and protect against possible diseases. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, they are left to macerate for 30 days in an open oak vat with native yeasts collected from the vineyard. The must is then racked into Slovenian oak barrels, where it is left on fine lees to finish malolactic fermentation and age for 2 years. Finally the wine is bottled during the waning moon because according to biodynamic principles, this calms the wine and ensures it develops well.

Batič Merlot is made using ancient traditions alongside biodynamic viticulture. A pure red wine, made through the symbiosis between man and nature.

 

2018

Batič Merlot 2018 is a richly concentrated red wine. The bouquet is gentle and nuanced, exceedingly delightful, suffused with scents of ripe fruit and vanilla against a backdrop of toasted notes. On the palate, it unfolds broadly and smoothly, exuding elegance with a medium body. It offers a harmonious blend of fruity flavors and crisp acidity. The finish is extensive and enduring.
2013

Batič Merlot 2013 is a concentrated red wine with soft aromas of ripe fruit, notes of vanilla and hints of toast. On the palate it is broad, round and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with a fruity character, biting acidity and a long, lingering finish.
