Zuccardi Serie A Bonarda

Zuccardi is a family winery that was set up in 1963 in the Uco Valley, a province of Mendoza (Argentina) and is now recognised as one of the most beautiful wineries in the world. The building, constructed in Paraje Altamira at 1,100 metres above sea level, is a tribute to the mountains and blends perfectly into the spectacular natural surroundings. The building responds to two essential requirements, firstly it needed to be a functional building that meets the demands of a premium winemaking process and, secondly, the tourism factor where the visitor is the protagonist. A total area of 8841 m² that was built in 2016 and has been named the best winery in the world for two years in a row by The World’s Best Vineyards.

In an area that is so perfect for making and enjoying wine, Sebastian Zuccardi, the third generation and current head of the winery, creates a range of wines under the name Serie A (A for Argentina) to highlight the richness of climates and soils in her native country. Zuccardi Serie A Bonarda is a wine made with the Bonarda variety, which is cultivated in a respectful way with the grapes harvested by hand. Once they reach the winery, the fruit is selected, destemmed and crushed and then undergoes a pre-fermentation maceration at 7ºC that can last between 4 and 6 days. The must then ferments with native yeasts at 25-27ºC and macerates for 20 days on the skins, with periodic pumping over and delestage. Finally, some of the wine is aged in first, second and third use French oak barrels for 12 months.

With all of this work, Sebastian has achieved the most faithful expression of Argentina’s most representative varieties with his Serie A range of wines. And although Bonarda is actually a grape of Italian origin, it is now much more common in Argentina. Zuccardi Serie A Bonarda is proof of this. A mountain wine that blends perfectly into a spectacular natural and architectural setting.
