Characteristics Virtus

Virtus 2016 is an aged red wine made with the Tinto Fino variety in the D.O. Ribera del Duero by Bodegas Virtus.

Although the winery originally dates back to when the Ribera de Duero Denomination of Origin was created, the winery in its current form came into being in 2013 when Íñigo López de la Osa took charge. Located in the town of Aldeyuso - Peñafiel (Castilla y León), an exceptional location in the heart of the Ribera, the team combines tradition with innovation to produce quality wines at a very affordable price.

The grapes selected to make the Virtus red wine are 100% Tinto Fino, the leading variety in this denomination that produces very high quality fruit thanks to the orographic and climatological characteristics of the area. The grapes are cultivated using traditional agriculture, limiting the yield and harvesting manually in 13 kg boxes.

When the Virtus grapes reach the winery, they are cooled to 4°C in a cold room. After undergoing a manual double selection process of clusters and grapes, pre-fermentation maceration takes place at 10ºC over 7 days. It is then vinified separately by plot in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for a month with gentle extraction through regular pump overs and cap plunges. Finally, the wine ages in French and American oak barrels for 12 to 14 months.

Virtus is a smooth, fruity and long-lasting wine that is the perfect example of truly Ribera wine at a good price.
