Characteristics Viña Pomal Centenario Crianza
Viña Pomal Centenario Crianza is a red wine from the Rioja region produced by Viña Pomal, one of the brands which forms Bodegas Bilbaínas, which was founded in 1904. Bodegas Bilbaínas has beomce a benchmark for red riojan wines, with one of its wines, Crianza Ederra, even being selected as the drink of choice for King Alfonso XIII. In 1997, the facilities and vineyards of Bodegas Bilbaínas were acquired by the Codorníu Group, which resulted in a renovation of the winery.
This wine is made using Tempranillo (100%) grapes taken from the wineries own vineyards situated in the Rioja Alta. The area is home to a moderate continental climate with both atlantic and mediterranean influences. The vineyards are situated around 400-500 metres above sea level on calcareous–clay, ferrous-clay and alluvial soils.
As for production, after having been selected, following destemming and crushing the must undergoes alcoholic maceration. Total maceration lasts two-three weeks. Finally, the wine is aged for twelve months in barrels of American oak, followed by 6 months in the bottle.

Viña Pomal Centenario Crianza 2015 is an expressive, deep and complex red wine. In this vintage, the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out, with smoked and spicy notes of the ageing process. In the mouth, it has a pleasant entry, very round and with a long and dry finish.
A balanced and elegant wine with a good attack and a gentle, and regular mid palate. The notes of fruit are interspersed with the soft spicy touches and some subtle floral hints. Good notes of oak are also felt. It has a good acidity and good nice tannins. Its very long finish leaves an aftertaste of fine mineral notes.

The century-old Bodegas Bilbaínas were born with a French heart and were established with a Riojan spirit. Bodegas Bilbaínas is the oldest bottling firm in La Rioja. It is the winery with the largest surface area of underground caves ("calados") in the whole region (3,400 m2). It also has the most extensive area of vineyards in the municipality of Haro. Since the beginning, the winery has been defined by its deep knowledge of the territory and the care in the production of its single-vineyard wines. These are extremely identified with the plots where they came from, hence their names: in 1911 Viña Pomal was created; in 1921, Viña Zaco; in 1923, the white wine Viña Paceta; and the range was extended in 1994 with La Vicalanda reserva, a distinguished and expressive wine that was born from the 9-hectare farm, selected in the vineyard area of Viña Pomal.
