At the end of the 20th century, the Errazuriz winery, located in Chile’s Aconcagua Valley, was said to be the largest in the world. We would need to look at their 1,000 hectares of vineyards and check if this is still the case a century later. What is undeniable is the quality that oozes from each one of them, where the vines are carefully cultivated. “From the best land comes the best wine,” said its founder Maximiano Errázuriz Valdivieso. Viña Errazuriz Estate Sauvignon Blanc is made by selecting the very best of them.
Viña Errazuriz Estate Sauvignon Blanc is a single-variety Sauvignon Blanc that grows very close to the Pacific Ocean, in the typical hills of the Aconcagua Valley, between 100 and 300 metres above sea level. In particular, this location, the northernmost in the country, is very special, as it is influenced both by the cold air masses coming from the sea and by the fogs and cold air currents coming down from the mountains. This uniqueness helps the vines to withstand this area’s typical summers, where the temperate Mediterranean climate predominates, with rainy winters and long, dry summers.
Today, Viña Errazuriz is one of the world’s most successful wineries. Founded in 1870, this winery continues to strive for excellence. For this reason, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully taken to the winery, always trying to make sure the bunches reach the winery in perfect condition. After destemming and pressing, the Viña Errazuriz Estate Sauvignon Blanc must is clarified (allowing it to settle at low temperatures so that the suspended particles can settle) and transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation. This latter process, where the yeasts work at their best, lasts between 15 and 20 days. Once finished, Viña Errazuriz Estate Sauvignon Blanc is separated into different lots and aged very lightly in oak barrels for only half a year. After this, Viña Errazuriz Estate Sauvignon Blanc is blended and bottled: Chilean excellence in a bottle.
Viña Errazuriz Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a sharp, straw-yellow coloured white with greenish glints. The nose is mainly citrus, with notes of lime and clementine. The palate is fruity and fresh, with notes of tangerines, tropical fruits and herbal hints. Its acidity and depth stand out. Persistent finish.
