Ventisquero Tara Viognier is a natural white wine aged in criaderas and soleras produced by Viña Ventisquero with the Viognier variety in the Huasco Valley, in Atacama (Chile).
Viña Ventisquero is run by Felipe Tossso, a Chilean winemaker who since 2000 has been working hard to extract the maximum expression of the terroir in the Maipo Valley, the Casablanca Valley and the Apalta Valley. To do this, he extensively studies the different types of soils with his team and produces high-quality wines with a markedly modern style. This goes some way to explaining how a relatively young winery has achieved such international success in a short time.
Ventisquero Tara Viognier NV comes from vines planted in calcareous and saline soils. The temperature contrasts of the desert and the dense fog coming from the Pacific Ocean are two weather features that help the grapes to ripen properly. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in 12 kilo boxes.
The Ventisquero Tara Viognier NV grapes are pressed 20-50% in whole bunches and, without adding any additional products, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in criaderas and soleras, which means several vintages are combined so the youngest wine is added to older wine. Finally, the wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Ventisquero Tara Viognier NV is a unique white wine made in the Atacama Desert. A very limited production from this winery’s most extreme wine range that is intriguing and persistently saline.
