Ventisquero Tara Syrah is a natural, wood-aged red wine made by Viña Ventisquero with the Syrah variety in the Huasco Valley, in Atacama (Chile).
Viña Ventisquero is run by Felipe Tosso, a Chilean winemaker who since 2000 has been extensively studying the different soils of the Casablanca Valley, the Maipo Valley and the Apalta Valley to produce very personal wines full of Chilean character. This is an intense work that, in a very short time, has earned him a reputation around the world.
Ventisquero Tara Syrah comes from the Atacama desert. From the Huasco Valley, to be precise. The vines are planted in calcareous soils and are influenced by the “camanchaca”, a characteristic dense mist from the Pacific that provides the necessary humidity to counteract the high temperatures of the desert. They are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and, once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.
In the winery, Ventisquero Tara Syrah is vinified with minimal intervention. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts and the wine ages for 24 months in used French oak barrels. It is bottled without filtering or clarifying.
Ventisquero Tara Syrah is part of the Tara wine range, which are Felipe Tosso’s most extreme wines. An unusual red wine from the desert.
