Trenel Juliénas Les Capitans is a single-variety Gamay red wine produced by the Trenel winery in the AOC Juliénas in Burgundy, France.
The Trénel Juliénas Les Capitans wine is made with clusters that come from plots with ancient alluvium stony soils on rocky beds of clay and granite. These vineyards lie in the extreme northwest of the Beaujolais region, where the Les Capitans terroir is the most famous in the denomination. The direct exposure to the south guarantees a perfect ripening of the grapes, which results in a well-structured wine with fruity and spicy characteristics.
When the bunches reach the winery, the grapes are partially destemmed and macerated for 26 days with their skins at a controlled temperature of 30º. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts and the resulting wine is aged for 12 months, 50% in large barrels (demimuid) and the rest in tanks. Finally the wine is bottled after a light filtration.
From the day it started out, Maison Trénel has set itself apart through its constant search for authenticity. It was set up in 1928 by Henri Claudius Trénel and is still a family business that works in select vineyards to give their wines the full character of the best Burgundy and Beaujolais terroirs.
