About Terres Dorées – Jean-Paul Brun Morgon Côte du Py Javernières
From the A.O.C. Morgon, the second largest cru in Beaujolais (eastern France), comes Terres Dorées - Jean-Paul Brun Morgon Côte du Py Javernières, a powerful and structured strong red wine that could almost last a lifetime.
This is the area Jean-Paul Brun has chosen to make his wine, firstly seeking a terroir that allows this vigneron to be true to his style, with warm, spicy reds. The site he chose was Janvernières, a plot of just one hectare located right on the Côte du Py, one of the best known and most famous lieux dit in the area. It seems that volcanic soils, with decomposed shale, are perfect for getting Gamay to ripen properly. These soils are known as “rotten rock”, as they originate from the decomposition of igneous rock. This feature is exclusive to the A.O.C. Morgon, and is what gives their red wines this special touch.
The Terres Dorées - Jean-Paul Brun Morgon Côte du Py Javernières clusters are sorted and harvested by hand, then go to the destemmer and undergo a long maceration process lasting up to four weeks (in the purest Burgundy style). Terres Dorées - Jean-Paul Brun Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is said to be a powerful wine that could do with some rest in the bottle (many even consider it necessary!). Taking this into account, maceration is a very important process, because during this time, where the skins are in contact with the must, different polyphenols (antioxidants) are transferred to the wine, which will protect it during its aging time. It’s important to remember that Terres Dorées - Jean-Paul Brun Morgon Côte du Py Javernières’s journey doesn’t end in the bottle; far from it. Inside the glass the wine is still exposed to chemical reactions between alcohol, water, oxygen and acids. The more weapons the wine has and the more it can withstand them (with the help of those polyphenols), the better. Finally, Terres Dorées - Jean-Paul Brun Morgon Côte du Py Javernières ferments and ages in cement tanks. A true explosion!
