About Skerk Teran

Skerk Teran is a natural, wood-aged red wine made by Skerk with the Teran variety in the IGT Venezia Giulia in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
 
With a minimalist philosophy, the Skerk family cultivates and produces wines according to the oldest traditions and with full respect for nature. The winery, located in Prepotto in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, has 8 hectares of local variety vines that are cultivated to produce genuine and sincere wines with their own identity.
 
Skerk Teran comes from a characteristic red earth soil that is rich in iron silicates. These vines are cultivated using ecological and biodynamic methods that minimise human intervention. The yields are very low and the harvest is carried out manually in boxes and with the grapes selected in the vineyard.
 
Once the skins have been separated, Skerk Teran ferments in small and medium-sized wooden barrels with native yeasts. It is then aged in foudres for 24 months and is finally bottled without clarifying, filtering or adding sulphites.
 
Cultivated and produced following traditional methods and in deep connection with the land, Skerk Teran is a limited production wine that honestly expresses its origins. A good Friuli wine that is much more interested in being authentic than keeping up with market trends.
 
2017
Skerk Teran 2017 is a smooth red wine with aromas of black fruits, notes of violet flowers and hints of spice. On the palate it is vigorous, fresh and fruity. A wine with present and somewhat harsh tannins that can be opened now or kept for a few years.
