Sílice Finca Lobeiras is an organic, barrel-aged red wine made by Sílice Viticultores in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra (Galicia) with the Mencía and Merenzeo varieties.
Sílice Viticultores began in 2013 when the Rodríguez brothers and their winemaker friend Fredi Torres decided to revive the family tradition in the Ribeira Sacra. They have vineyards lying on steep slopes where the Atlantic climate gives rise to very fine and elegant wines that have been recognised by the most prestigious wine experts.
Sílice Finca Lobeiras comes from vines aged around 20 years old lying on steep terraces at the top of the Sil river canyon. These are limited yield strains planted on calcareous, clayey and granite soils. Organic farming is used and all work in the vineyard is manual.
In the winery, the Sílice Finca Lobeiras grapes are destemmed and gently crushed before undergoing a pre-fermentation maceration. Spontaneous fermentation then takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine ages for 15 months in 225-litre used barrels.
One of the best wines made by this new generation winery in the Ribeira Sacra, Sílice Finca Lobeiras stands out for being a limited production, single-plot and 100% artisan product.
