About Selva Capuzza Groppello San Biagio
The name Groppello comes from the word “groppo”. A word that means “knot” in the local dialect and refers to its tight and compact cluster. In fact, it was previously a very widespread variety to make rosé wines in Lombardy (Italy). But with the triumph of foreign varieties that became fashionable, many winegrowers abandoned it. Fortunately, in the 1990s, a recovery process began. People like Luca Formentini, fourth generation of the Selva Capuzza family winery, do an impeccable job of restoration to achieve single-variety Groppello wines with a delicate structure and fragrant aromas.
An example of this effort to showcase the purest identity of the region is Selva Capuzza Groppello San Biagio, a red wine from vineyards located on Lake Garda, in Brescia, on pebble soils of morainic origin and under an almost Mediterranean climate. The grapes are organically harvested by hand in 20 kg boxes. Then in the winery, they are destemmed, pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Finally, it spends a few months on the lees before bottling.
As the first product to leave the winery after the harvest, Selva Capuzza Groppello San Biagio is a wine that aims to showcase the Groppello variety in all its splendour. A young wine without complexity and aging that in its richness of sensations brings you closer to the fruit.
2020 |
Selva Capuzza Groppello San Biagio 2020 is a juicy red wine with exuberant aromas of small red fruits and herbaceous notes. On the palate it is smooth, lively and persistent. An easy-drinking wine with smooth tannins and marked acidity. |
