Saint Etienne Cigala is an organic red wine aged in cement tanks made by Domaine Saint Etienne with the Syrah and Garnacha Tinta varieties in the AOC Côtes du Rhône, in the Rhone (France).
Under the motto “Fac et spera” Saint Etienne has become one of the leading wineries in the Rhone Valley. M.Chapoutier bought the estate in August 2017 and now cultivates 25 hectares of exceptional terroir through sustainable and very respectful viticulture. As a result, he produces complex, elegant and nuanced wines.
The Saint Etienne Cigala wine comes from vines planted on the Les Molières plateau, in Montfrin, between Avignon and Nimes. These vines are planted on soils with pebbles on the surface and red clays underneath. They have been cultivated using certified organic agriculture since 2013 and the harvest is carried out first thing in the morning to prevent oxidation.
In the winery, the Saint Etienne Cigala grapes are selected and completely destemmed. They then begin spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts for 5 to 7 weeks. The wine is then aged for 7 to 10 months in cement tanks.
Saint Etienne Cigala is an intense, complex and elegant red wine from the Rhone Valley. An exceptional terroir called “Molieres” which, legend has it, was chosen by the great playwright Jean-Baptiste Poquelin as his stage name.
