About Raíces Verdejo

Twenty indigenous varieties. Twenty gems awaiting discovery. The first of these: Raíces Verdejo. We assure you in advance that it will not disappoint.
 
The mastermind behind this creation is oenologist Rubén Magallanes, a member of the Raíces Ibéricas team. This initiative, established in 1998, aims to revive forgotten areas, vineyards, and grape varieties, striving to showcase and promote the oenological richness of Spain through its wines. In this leg of the journey, we explore the region of Castilla y León (west of Spain), the undisputed home of the Verdejo grape, which dominates approximately 10% of the vineyards in this area. Here, the bunches of Raíces Verdejo grow on old vines, averaging 20 years of age, at an altitude of around 700 meters.
 
Raíces Verdejo is harvested between the last week of August and the first week of September, always in a completely respectful manner. The key touch in the vinification of this white wine comes with its pre-fermentative cold maceration (lasting about five days) and its aging on lees for around 40 days (with the corresponding batonnages and stirrings).
 
Raíces Ibéricas is part of the Master Winemakers group, founded by Mark Schiettekat. With him and his vision, a new way of experiencing wine is inaugurated, far more accessible, where the focus is placed squarely on the consumer, offering them a unique journey through the Spanish vineyards. Raíces Verdejo 2018 is a young white wine that entices with its vibrancy and aromatic profile.
