About Radoar Zweigelt
Italy’s landscapes, history and traditions are perfect for making evocative wines. The country’s ancient wine culture has been around for centuries and now, the “Interpretazioni” project is working to build on it, running in the opposite direction to standardisation. This project was set up to give space and visibility to those quality wines that, through experimentation and intuition, have managed to recover traditional practices that balance the work of man and nature. One of the wineries that is committed to this way of working is Radoar. A family project located in one of the highest wine-growing areas of South Tyrol (Italy) where mainly white grape vines and fruit trees are grown.
But if this winery stands out for anything, it is for not following conventions. Their Radoar Zweigelt wine is made from the Zweigelt variety, a grape that is very popular in neighbouring Austria but a rarity in Italy. These vines are over 40 years old growing at an altitude of 900 m above sea level on shale soil and high sun exposure. They are cultivated using organic agriculture certified by BIOLAND with biodynamic preparations and following the phases of the moon. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, vinification in the winery is carefully carried out through fermentation with native yeasts and aging in used 500-litre barrels for about 10 months.
So, the most widely planted red grape in Austria is showcased in Radoar Zweigelt as a single-variety wine that meets all the expectations of a high quality wine but with all the personal charm of the ancient Italian tradition. Brilliant smoothness!
2018 |
Radoar Zweigelt 2018 is a supple red wine suffused with aromas of ripe red fruit, nuanced with spicy undertones and hints of greenery. On the palate, it is vivacious, smooth, and delicate. This medium-bodied wine boasts a discernible yet unobtrusive tannin structure paired with a zesty acidity. |
