Pomum Red Wine

Pomum Red Wine is a barrel-aged red wine made by Pomum Cellars in the Colombia Valley, in Washington (USA) with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot varieties. 

 

 

Run by Spanish couple Javier Alfonso, a winemaker, and his wife Shylah, Pomum Cellars is a small winery in one of the first American wine-growing areas, in the Yakima Valley, with the aim of showcasing the honest expression of the local area. They produce artisan wines with great varietal purity. 

 

 

Pomum Red Wine is a coupage of red varieties cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and through partnerships with some of the most prestigious wine-growers in the area. The harvest is carried out separately when the grapes in each vineyard reach optimum ripeness. 

 

 

When the grapes reach the winery, the winemaking process for Pomum Red Wine begins. In the winery, the best grapes are selected and then gently pressed. They then macerate and ferment at a controlled temperature and finally the wine ages for 20 months in French oak barrels.

 

 

The main aim of this project is to showcase the potential of the Washington State vineyards, and this Pomum Red Wine limited production coupage does exactly that. A red wine with great aging potential that can be enjoying in 10-12 years’ time.
