About Poggio Bbaranèllo Margherita
In 2009 Silvia’s family bought a piece of land in Montefiasco, just north of Lazio (in central Italy). They did so as an investment; or perhaps as the perfect opportunity to turn something bad into something good, an opportunity to use the compensation money from her father and aunt’s accident. He spent three months in the hospital. She died in the end. Now, years later, the estate has become Poggio Bbaranèllo. At the helm is Silvia (with her partner Lisa) who pays tribute to her aunt by making a wine with her name: Poggio Bbaranèllo Margherita.
The production of Poggio Bbaranèllo Margherita is very limited. Only very small quantities of this white wine are produced. It is made from Malvasia, which is kept in contact with its skins throughout fermentation and rests in fibreglass for almost a year. The Malvasia used to make Poggio Bbaranèllo Margherita is one of the three varieties that Silvia and her partner Lisa cultivate biodynamically and naturally at Poggio Bbaranèllo, a young winery that faces the sea and Mount Argentario. The estate lies on a mound, at an altitude of 436 metres above sea level, on sandy, silt and clay soils. In this location, where the contrast between daytime and nighttime temperatures is very large, the strong gusts of wind from the north, which exceed 70 km/h and keep the vines ventilated at all times, are striking.
Before noon all the Poggio Bbaranèllo Margherita grapes are in the winery, starting the harvest very early, always making sure that the heat does not spoil the condition and quality of the bunches. Throughout fermentation, Poggio Bbaranèllo Margherita is kept in contact with the skins and aged for approximately one year in fibreglass tanks. Poggio Bbaranèllo Margherita is a tasty white wine. A wonderful wine dedicated to Aunt Margherita “wherever she is”.
