Although he had a passion for motor racing as a child and worked in a garage for the first few years of his professional life, Pierre Cotton soon realised that he preferred being outdoors than indoors. To the astonishment of his parents, he decided to lend a hand on the family estate on the Côte-de-Brouilly hillside in Beaujolais and become the owner of several estates to make his own authentic wines that are full of character. In a short time, this endeavour has led him to become a new generation vigneron who is positively transforming the Beaujolais wine region with wonders like his Pierre Cotton Fleurie Poncié.
Inspired by local colleagues like Yann Bertrand, Jules Metras and Keke Descombes, Pierre Cotton Fleurie Poncié is an organically grown, minimal intervention cuvée. This wine is made with the reigning variety of the AOC Fleurie, the Gamay. The vines are planted on pink granite soils and organically cultivated with very limited yields and trees planted around the vineyard. In the winery, natural winemaking methods are also used. Firstly, the whole grape bunches undergo a semi-carbonic maceration in concrete tanks and then the wine ages for 8 months in old foudres. Finally it is bottled unfiltered and with minimal SO2.
Pierre Cotton Fleurie Poncié combines all the delicacy of the Gamay variety with all the mastery of this new trendy vigneron. A light, floral and wonderfully precise cuvée.
Pierre Cotton Fleurie Poncié 2019 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red fruits and hints of violet flowers. On the palate it is delicate, lively and light. A flavoursome wine with good fruity grip, a pleasant texture and an exciting granitic finish.
