Pequeñas Puertas La Moribunda

Pequeñas Puertas La Moribunda is a red wine made from the Garnacha variety by Proyecto Zorzal in the D.O. Navarra.

 

Viñas Zorzal Wine is a family winery where the Sanz brothers seek the maximum expression of terroir in vineyards located in the D.O. Navarra and in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. This project has the same name as a winemaking company owned by winemaker Matías Michelini in Argentina. This coincidence of having the same name brought the two together and they began producing single-plot wines in the D.O. Navarra.

 

Pequeñas Puertas La Moribunda comes from a recovered vineyard located in the Navarra town of Fitero, in the Majarrasas area. This is a unique vineyard with vines aged around 35 years old and planted in complex soils of rock, limestone, sandstone and slate. They are cultivated using ecological agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

 

When the Pequeñas Puertas La Moribunda grapes reach the winery, spontaneous fermentation begins with the whole bunches in open 500-litre barrels, removing the stalks with each cap plunge. Finally, the wine ages for 15 months in 500 litre barrels that have only been used twice.

 

The Pequeñas Puertas La Moribunda wine comes from an abandoned plot that has been revived though the meticulous work of the Sanz brothers and Matías Michelini, to produce a single-plot wine with a unique historical identity.
