About Opus One Overture
In the purest French style, but made in California’s Napa Valley. This is how we could describe Opus One Overture, the second wine from Baron Philippe de Rothschild and winemaker Robert Mondavi. An adventure that began when the two met at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on Hawaii’s Big Island. At that moment, an understanding and a common goal emerged: to combine the expertise of the two to produce a high quality wine.
Very soon the Opus One winery gained great recognition. After Opus One, the jewel in the crown, comes Opus One Overture, a red wine made from the varieties grown in the four vineyards that the winery owns in the A.V.A. Oakville, where cool breezes blow, resulting in cooler wines. There, the grapes are harvested by hand without leaving aside other more modern and innovative options (as long as they benefit the final product).
After this, the best berries are carefully selected, with an optical sorter, and fermented separately in stainless steel tanks. Opus One Overture is macerated with the skins for 17 days and aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.
2023 | Opus One Overture Release 2023 unfolds with a nuanced allure, featuring spiced undertones and a ripeness that caresses the palate. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry, cherry, and plum, complemented by earthy hints of leather and tobacco, promising an enthralling tasting experience. Upon tasting, its moderately robust body is balanced with a succulent texture, inviting a journey through complex yet approachable flavors, perfect for those seeking depth without being overwhelmed. |

2016 | Opus One Overture 2016 is a richly concentrated red wine, crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. It exhibits a bouquet redolent of blueberries, blackcurrants, and plums, complemented by hints of vanilla and coffee. On the palate, it is characterized by low acidity, with seamlessly integrated tannins that are highly expressive, culminating in a lingering finish. Flavor notes include mocha, dark chocolate, cocoa, cherry, and red fruits. |
