Morgen Long Marine Chardonnay

2021

White wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture. 12 months in French, Allier oak barrels.
Aromas of lemon, peach and lime with lots of structure. Morgen Long Marine Chardonnay 2021 is a wine that you will not forget. This vintage is once again very well-defined, with very fine and elegant minerality and acidity. The nose is complex. Apple, ginger, flowers and hazelnuts are added to the above notes. The palate is round and pleasant, with refined tannins.

About Morgen Long Marine Chardonnay
Seth Morgen is known as the first winemaker in Oregon's Willamette Valley (on the northwest coast of the United States) to specialise in Chardonnay, one of the four most widely planted varieties in the state (Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are the others), which takes on a unique characteristic in this area: the mineral touch that goes so well with this versatile variety.
The Willamette Valley soils (very varied) and climate make it possible for this variety to grow well in the area. Volcanic soils, maritime sedimentary sandstone and wind-displaced loess make up the vine’s home. The summers (rainy and humid), mild winters and the influence of the Pacific Ocean do the rest. The Morgen Long Marine Chardonnay grapes come from the Yamhill (planted between 1984 and 1985) and Loubejac (planted in 2008) vineyards. In the first, the vines grow on sandy soil with marine sediments, at an altitude of 400-500 metres, facing south and cultivated sustainably by Ralph Stein, who began replanting vine by vine in 2004. The second is the southernmost of all the vineyards Seth Morgen works with, and it is planted with clones of the variety direct from Dijon. They are cultivated entirely sustainably and without irrigation on the loamy soils.
The bunches used to make Morgen Long Marine Chardonnay will go one way or another in the winery, depending where they come from. Following a manual harvesting, the Loubejac grapes are pressed whole and sulphured directly in the press; the Yamhill grapes also go into the press but are left for about 12 hours before being vatted in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation begins in these vessels with native yeasts, and is completed in 350 L and 258 L French oak barrels. This process lasts about three weeks and finishes with malolactic fermentation. After a year in oak, the batches are once again racked into stainless steel tanks, leaving a small amount in oak to make the final blend (15% new French oak). Finally, after cold stabilisation and filtration, Morgen Long Marine Chardonnay is bottled.

2019 | Morgen Long Marine Chardonnay 2019 is a defined white. Aromas of lime, Asian pear, chalk, beeswax, jasmine and green tea appear on the nose. The palate is mineral, thick and dense, with bright acidity. Calcareous texture. |
