Monastrell Vino de Calichet 2013 is a mature red wine with aromas of black fruit, notes of liquorice and toasted and balsamic hints. On the palate it is powerful, enveloping and deep. A medium-bodied, well-balanced wine with a long and persistent finish.
Monastrell, known around the world as Mourvèdre, is a low-yielding variety that loves the Mediterranean climate. So much so that it is the queen of grapes in eastern Spain. Bodegas Cerdá, the family wine project that has been going since 1885 in the Alicante town of Hondón de las Nieves, has chosen this variety to make their wines in the D.O. Alicante.
Monastrell Vino de Calichet, one of their most characteristic wines, is full of the quality they say it has. A wine made from grapes harvested at optimum ripeness and taken immediately to the winery to preserve their intrinsic qualities. In the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed and crushed and, following alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for 24 months in oak barrels.
This is how they make Monastrell Vino de Calichet, a powerful and intense wine that is full of fruit and perfectly expresses the character of the Mediterranean territory that the Monastrell variety loves so much.
