Mas Coutelou Flambadou is a natural, organic and vegan, barrel-aged red wine made by young viticulturist Jean François Coutelou with the Cariñena variety at his family winery in the Languedoc-Roussillon area, in southern France.
When Jean François Coutelou, known as Jeff, took on the Mas Coutelou family estate, he revolutionised the place by transforming the 20-hectares of just vineyards into an area of rich biodiversity. A champion of local varieties, organic agriculture and natural winemaking, he has become an ambassador for the new generations in the south of France with his pure, unique and, above all, very creative wines.
Mas Coutelou Flambadou comes from vines lying on the Mediterranean coast and planted in predominantly clay soils. They have been cultivated using organic agriculture since 1987 and the treatments used are mainly plant-based. To ensure the grapes are as high quality as possible, the vine yield is limited and the harvest is selective and totally manual.
The Mas Coutelou Flambadou grapes are vinified with as little intervention as possible to give them chance to reveal their best expression. To do this, fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and the barrel aging process is meticulously controlled. Finally the wine is bottled by gravity, without filtering and without adding sulphites.
Mas Coutelou Flambadou is born out of a desire to turn nature into wine. A pure wine where each vintage is unique and special. Pure virtuous fruit.
