Maison Manchès Côte Rotie 2016 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of black fruits, spicy notes and herbal hints. On the palate it is flavorsome, fresh and meaty. A medium-bodied wine characterised by velvety tannins, noticeable acidity and an amazingly long finish.
The Côte Rôtie vineyard is undoubtedly one of the oldest in the Rhône Valley (France) and is one of the elite among great wines. Until the 1940s, the boundaries of the Côte-Rôtie were mainly limited to the Côte-Brune and the Côte-Blonde. Two plots whose names, according to legend, come from the partition set by their owner in the 16th century, Lord Maugiron, for his two daughters, one brunette (‘brune’) and the other blonde. However, the truth is that Côte-Brune has a darker soil and Côte-Blonde a lighter one, and this is probably the true origin of the names. Be that as it may, the two form a spectacular winegrowing landscape in which the Syrah variety is at its best. That is why Jean Philippe Manchès, a young and passionate winemaker, did not want to miss the opportunity to extract the best from such a spectacular terroir and decided to share his passion and preoccupations with Pierre Gaillard, one of the great Rhône winemakers. Under the Maison Manchès brand, they produce gourmet wines that are rich in fruit and faithful to the place they come from.
This Maison Manchès Côte Rotie is a red wine made entirely from the Syrah star variety. The vines are grown on terraces on the steep slopes of the Côte-Brune and Côte-Blonde and enjoy traditional cultivation with entirely manual harvesting. Once in the winery, an extensive selection of healthy and ripe grapes is carried out and the grapes are destemmed. This is followed by cold pre-fermentation maceration and alcoholic fermentation at 35°C in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in fine grain oak barrels (Allier and Nevers), 50% of which are new.
Côte Rotie is special, and Maison Manchès Côte Rotie is proof of this. A sweet, silky and elegant wine from the beautiful northern Rhône Valley that showcases the noblest expression of Syrah.
