Main Divide Pinot Noir

Main Divide Pinot Noir is an organic, barrel-aged red wine made with the Pinot Noir variety by Main Divide, a New Zealand winery in Canterbury.

Main Divide is the personal endeavour of Matthew Donaldson. After training in different wineries across the old and new world, he and his family settled on the banks of the Waipara River to start his own wine project. A champion of Pinot Noir, he seeks maximum expression of the variety through the different soils he works in a sustainable and organic way.

Main Divide Pinot Noir comes from vines planted in free-draining stony soils. These vineyards enjoy a temperate climate thanks to the influence of the sea. They are also ecologically cultivated without the use of herbicides or pesticides. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

Following Burgundy winemaking techniques, the grapes selected to make Main Divide Pinot Noir ferment in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and regular pumping over. It is then aged for 12-18 months in small oak barrels.

Wines from the other side of the world have really made their mark. And one of those is this Main Divide Pinot Noir. A red wine made in a true Burgundy style but with a New Zealand personality.
