Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Saint-Veran is a barrel-aged white wine made according to ecological and biodynamic principles by Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon in the Burgundy denomination of AOC Saint-Véran with the Chardonnay variety.
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon was set up in 1999 in Mâconnais, an area south of Burgundy that is traditionally known for mass production. However, Dominique Lafon, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture, could see the potential of the local vineyards and acquired 7.5 hectares in Milly and Bussières. In a short time, his wines became some of the best in the region.
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Saint-Veran comes from two plots lying about 250 metres above sea level. This is an area of 1.15 hectares with vines planted between 1988 and 2000 on clay soil and hard limestone. The team works with ecological agriculture and biodynamic treatments, and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
In the winery, the Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Saint-Veran grapes are selected and gently pressed. Then the resulting must begins vinification with native yeasts in large 45 to 48 hectolitre oval wooden foudres. Finally, the wine ages in used barrels on its lees for 7 to 8 months.
The Saint-Véran protected denomination of origin has some of the highest quality plots in all of Mâcon and Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Saint-Veran is proof of this. A complex and vibrant white for a great price.
