About Lavia
Lavia is a wood-aged red wine produced by the Lavia winery with the Monastrell and Syrah varieties in the Bullas Denomination of Origin in Murcia (Spain).
Lavia is the project of a group of viticulture lovers who decided to show the world the great potential behind the Denomination of Origin Bullas in 2003. So they set up a small winery which creates unique wines, the result of maximum care and respect for the environment. Some singularities which won over the great MGWines Group family and in 2014 they became part of this major group.
Lavia comes from vineyards planted at a height of 750 meters above sea level. On one hand, Syrah vines have an average age of 15 years and are planted on deep limestone soils with pebbles and alluvial gravel. On the other hand, Monastrell vines reach 40 years of age and grow in shallow limestone soils with recent degradation. They use environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes.
In the winery, the Lavia grapes pass through the selection table, destemming and partial treading. Fermentation then begins in 100 hl stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and with native yeasts. The maceration lasts 15 days and once the malolactic fermentation is finished, the wine ages for 12 months in French oak; 40% in 500-liter barrels and 60% in wooden vats.
Lavia is one of the great blends of the DO Bullas . A wine which is the result of the perfect combination of the power of the native Monastrell variety with the sumptuousness of Syrah.
2016 | Lavia 2016 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of ripe red and black fruit, spiced notes and hints of licorice. On the palate it’s powerful and silky at the same time. It shows sweet tannins, an unctuous mid palate and a long and fresh finish. |
