About Las Cercas
Las Cercas is a red wine made by Bodegas y Viñedos La Mejorada in the V.T. Castilla-León using Syrah and Tempranillo varieties.
Bodegas y Viñedos La Mejorada was born through the reconstruction of an old Jerome monastery dating back to the fifteenth century. Located at a crossroads in the town of Olmedo (Valladolid) it has always had a connection with viticulture and winemaking. Now, with Rafael Moneo at the helm, the cloisters have been redesigned to fit the clear order of the winemaking process.
Las Cercas is made from vines planted in 1999 on the land surrounding the monastery. For the winery’s technical team, this is the terroir that best expresses the essence of La Mejorada, with its siliceous soil and vine’s microclimate. Two factors that cause a lower yield but a better quality. The grapes are harvested by hand.
Once the Las Cercas grape reaches the winery, it is vinified in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 10ºC. This wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. Stabilisation occurs naturally and it is not filtered.
Las Cercas is a wine that combines the elegance of the Syrah variety with the versatility of Tempranillo.
2013 | Las Cercas 2013 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe black fruit, violet flowers and spices. On the palate it is firm, balanced, balsamic and lingering. |
