About LaFou de Batea
LaFou de Batea is a red wine made by LaFou in the D.O. Terra Alta with the Garnacha Tinta and Samsó (Cariñena) varieties.
Ramón Roqueta started his Lafou Celler project in Terra Alta as a loyal supporter of the Garnacha variety and known for his winemaking at Abadal in Pla de Bages. Working alongside his technical director, Joan Soler they have a total of 12.5 hectares of their own vineyards, all located in Mas Gabrielet, an estate located north of Batea (Tarragona). This results in wines with varietal typicity and full of terroir character.
LaFou de Batea comes from vineyards aged between 40 and 70 years old, planted in predominantly calcareous soils, with a clayey and loamy clay texture, lying at more than 350 metres above sea level. The yields are low and the harvest is carried out manually.
When the LaFou de Batea grape reaches the winery, fermentation takes place in small open stainless steel tanks, using an aerial pigéage system. It then ages for 12 months in 300-litre Central European oak barrels and concrete egg vats.
The LaFou de Batea red wine is the result of a love for the terroir combined with experience. A limited production of warmth and power following the Terra Alta tradition.

2015 | LaFou de Batea 2015 is a fruity red wine with aromas of ripe red fruit and touches of balsamic and undergrowth. On the palate it is fresh, juicy and balanced. It has good acidity with fine tannins and vibrant red fruit. | |
2008 | This wine shows a good, wide and fleshy attack. Thanks to its wonderful acidity, which provides it with liveliness, a very nice mid palate is displayed with a good combination of grape and wood tannins. Its long and persistent finish shows some bitter hints. A red wine to be enjoyed slowly. Bright and dense, deep dark cherry colour. Very good aromatic intensity. Initially, some sweet notes of nuts are notice, which give way to a very powerful red fruit on a balsamic and mineral background. As it opens up, the notes of fruit evolve and aromas of black fruit compote (made of prunes or figs) are released along with subtle toasted notes, vanilla and nuts. |
|
2007 | Concentrated wine and friendly, with an acid bulb and light tannins that follow a marked air of the Grenache profile. This wine has a deep layer, color intense cherry with a garnet rim. The nose is outstanding for its elegance based on a very fresh red fruit (raspberry and blackberry) given by the Grenache, the core of this wine. Background notes syrah Olive and cherry and plum of the cabernet. A set of great complexity that unfolds in the glass over the minutes, stirring notes of the environment and herb roasted thin barrel. |
